Mets recall Verrett, Monell, Herrera

The Mets have recalled right-handed starter Logan Verrett, catcher Johnny Monell, and 2nd baseman Dilson Herrera from Triple-A Las Vegas. This comes a day after the Las Vegas 51s ended their season just one game out of the division lead, missing the playoffs.

Verrett started yesterday’s game for Las Vegas, so he will not be immediately available out of the bullpen. He is expected to make a few spot starts for Matt Harvey down the stretch.

The move brings the Mets’ active roster to 37 players. The only 3 players on the 40-man roster not on the active roster are outfielder Darrell Ceciliani and Double-A pitchers Gabriel Ynoa and Akeel Morris.

The move is somewhat notable because of who the Mets did not call up – Dillon Gee and Vic Black. Both pitchers had been removed from the 40 man roster. Gee was designated for assignment on June 15th and Vic Black was outrighted on September 1st. Barring the unlikely event that they are added back to the 40 man roster, both can become free agents at season’s end. Gee, in the unlikely event that he is called up this September, would likely be non-tendered anyway in his final year of arbitration eligibility.
