9/25/15 Game Preview: Syndergaard vs. DeSclafani

The Mets (86-67) face the Cincinnati Reds (63-89) at 7:10 tonight at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Noah Syndergaard (3.39 ERA, 3.34 FIP, 1.10 WHIP, 135 1/3 IP over 22 starts) faces off against Anthony DeSclafani (3.79 ERA, 3.64 FIP, 1.33 WHIP, 173 1/3 IP over 29 starts).

  9. Noah Syndergaard, P (L)

Reds:

  1. Jason Bourgeois, CF (R)
  2. Joey Votto, 1B (L)
  3. Brandon Phillips, 2B (R)
  4. Jay Bruce, RF (L)
  5. Todd Frazier, 3B (R)
  6. Eugenio Suarez, SS (R)
  7. Adam Duvall, LF (R)
  8. Tucker Barnhart, C (S)
  9. Anthony DeSclafani, P (R)

Though it has stabilized lately, it is still tough to ignore Noah Syndergaard’s home/road splits, with a 2.57 ERA at home and a 4.47 ERA on the road (.297 wOBA against at home, .335 on the road). Syndergaard, in his last start, was undone by two huge home runs by the Yankees. He’ll have to do his best to keep the Reds in the ballpark, which may be a tall task given the park’s size.

Anthony DeSclafani has had a decent year for the Reds, after being acquired in the offseason for Mat Latos. However, the ballpark may be hurting DeSclafani’s numbers, since he has a 4.71 ERA at home with a 3.00 ERA on the road (.347 wOBA vs. .285 wOBA). DeSclafani has also allowed a higher wOBA to lefties (.331 as opposed to .295 to righties), and he has given up 11 of his 15 home runs to lefties this season.

As always, LET’S GO METS!
