9/6/2015 Game Preview: d’Arnaud and Wright sit

The Mets (75-60) take on the Miami Marlins (56-80) at 1:10 this afternoon. LHP Steven Matz (1.32 ERA, 4.32 FIP, 0.88 FIP, 13 2/3 IP over 2 starts) takes on RHP Jarred Cosart (5.36 ERA, 5.26 FIP, 1.37 WHIP, 45 1/3 IP over 8 starts and 1 relief appearance). Matz is making his first start off the disabled list (partial left lat tear) and Cosart is making his first start since a nearly-two month minor league assignment and vertigo/inner ear issues.

Lineups:

Steven Matz makes only his third major league start after returning from the disabled list.

Mets:

  1. Curtis Granderson, RF (L)
  2. Yoenis Cespedes, CF (R)
  3. Michael Conforto, LF (L)
  4. Wilmer Flores, 2B (R)
  5. Kelly Johnson, 1B (L)
  6. Juan Uribe, 3B (R)
  7. Ruben Tejada, SS (R)
  8. Kevin Plawecki, C (R)
  9. Steven Matz, P (R)

Marlins:

  1. Dee Gordon, 2B (L)
  2. Christian Yelich, LF (L)
  3. Martin Prado, 3B (R)
  4. Marcell Ozuna, RF (R)
  5. Casey McGehee, 1B (R)
  6. Cole Gillespie, CF (R)
  7. Miguel Rojas, SS (R)
  8. Jeff Mathis, C (R)
  9. Jarred Cosart, P (R)

Matz has caught the Mets’ attention through both his great pitching and fantastic bat through his first two starts. In his first major league start, he went 3-3 with 4 RBI. He makes just his third major league start after spending time on the disabled list (partial left lat muscle tear).

Jarred Cosart makes his first start after returning from the minors. Cosart had been suffering from vertigo. After acquiring him from Houston last trade deadline, Cosart has not quite put it together with Miami. However, on this season, he has a 2.35 ERA in his home ballpark, without allowing a home run.

Michael Cuddyer has received a cortisone shot, so he will be out at least 1-2 days. Terry Collins expects Daniel Murphy back in the lineup tomorrow in Washington.

The Marlins are sitting lefties Justin Bour, Derek Dietrich, and Ichiro Suzuki against the left hander.

Keep an eye on Wilmer Flores, who is 4/8 career against Cosart with a home run and 5 RBI (very much a small sample size alert).
