Welcome to WE GOTTA BELIEVE, a source for Mets news, recaps, and opinion.
I’ve been a Mets fan for as long as I remember and I’ve been going to Mets games since I was six years old. My earliest Mets Memory is Al Leiter’s two hit shutout to win the 1999 NL Wild Card tiebreaker game. What a treat for 7 year old me – I got to stay up till the end of the game. My first memory at Shea was Game 4 of the 1999 NLCS, with Todd Pratt’s walk-off home run. More important to me at the time, I lost a tooth and it fell in front of the seat in front of me. Luckily, I got it back and the Tooth Fairy was pleased.
I love all kinds of statistics, and have for as long as I can remember. I’m very much interested in sabermetrics, but to a point. I trust stats like FIP, but it is not the be-all-end-all (I believe some pitchers do have a talent for initiating weak contact) and I do believe there is a skill to maintaining a high batting average (even though OBP is much more valuable). That being said, pitcher wins make absolutely no sense and I shall not refer to them on this blog. I don’t care if Matt Harvey is 5-8 with a 2.07 ERA, so long as the team is winning. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
I digress… this is about the Mets, all the time. I hope you enjoy. And as always….
